L Band
Maritime Connectivity

Reliable Inmarsat & Iridium solutions for safety, compliance, and always-on communications – from equator to pole.

Reliable Global L-Band Satellite Communication for All Vessels

In the context of the SOLAS/GMDSS framework, vessels must carry communications capabilities appropriate to the “sea area” in which they operate:
• Sea Area A1: Within range of a VHF coast station.
• Sea Area A2: Outside A1 but within MF shore station range.
• Sea Area A3: Outside A1 and A2 but within coverage of geostationary satellites (~ 76° N to 76° S) — typical for much of international commercial shipping.
• Sea Area A4: Outside A1, A2 and A3 — i.e., the polar regions where GEO satellite coverage drops off and a polar-capable L-band solution is required.
Understanding these designations allows vessel owners and operators to select appropriate L-band equipment that ensures safety, compliance and full global reach.

Inmarsat GMDSS – Trusted GEO L-Band Safety & Communications

Our solutions based on the Inmarsat geostationary L-band network deliver essential safety, distress and operational communications for vessels in Sea Area A3 (and shore/near-shore combinations). The GEO constellation offers stable, widely-adopted coverage between approximately 76° N and 76° S, meeting SOLAS carriage requirements for many commercial and superyacht vessels.

We supply terminals from partner vendors such as Sailor/Cobham Satcom and integrate them into the broader shipboard communications architecture (VSAT, Starlink, 5G, SD-WAN/SASE). This ensures the safety link is fully managed, monitored and supported.

Benefits & needs addressed

Ensures compliance with GMDSS carriage requirements in Sea Area A3

High reliability: L-band signals are less affected by heavy weather or rain fade compared to higher-bands

Seamless integration into hybrid networks, so the safety channel is part of the overall connectivity ecosystem

Full-lifecycle support from our team: specification, installation, commissioning, remote monitoring and maintenance

Inmarsat GMDSS

Sailor 6110 mini‑C GMDSS

A next-generation GMDSS terminal in the Sailor 6000 series designed for the Inmarsat C network.

• Features include a modern touch-screen message terminal, simplified CAN-BUS/NMEA2000 styling cabling, and external storage via SD/USB.
• Handles GMDSS, SSAS and LRIT functionality in one system.
• Suitable for vessels operating in Sea Area A3 where GEO L-band safety coverage is sufficient.

Iridium Certus – True Pole-to-Pole Global L-Band Connectivity

For vessels operating in the most remote or high-latitude zones — particularly Sea Area A4 (polar regions) or as a global fallback/companion channel — our solutions leverage the Iridium Communications L-band Low Earth Orbit (LEO) network. This ensures truly global coverage (pole to pole) and enables safety, operational and crew-welfare communications anywhere on the globe.

We deploy terminals from vendors such as Sailor/Cobham and Intellian, and integrate them into hybrid network architectures (VSAT, 5G, SD-WAN/SASE) so your vessel has redundancy, resilience and continuous connectivity regardless of geography.

Benefits & needs addressed

Full global coverage: enables safe operation in Sea Area A4 and outside GEO footprints

Fit-for-purpose link for safety, telemetry, crew welfare, remote monitoring and operational continuity

Hybrid-network ready: acts as primary channel in remote zones or fallback to VSAT/5G in greener waters

Our in-house expertise ensures seamless system integration, remote configuration, monitoring via our Epic Cloud platform, and 24/7 support
